Hugo Scagnetti, Head of IoT Connectivity and Global Partners in Telefónica Spain, will be the first person to go on a round-the-world trip on a motorbike, having the best technology that will allow him to monitor the entire trip and keep track of his journey. The Globalride officially started last May 27 from Telefonica’s Headquarters in Madrid.

Both Telefónica and Yamaha have supported the initiative proposed by Scagnetti, providing all the necessary features and gadgets to enable the trip; being the main aim of it to raise funds for research with stem cells and tissue regeneration in children. Scagnetti was affected in both legs by a disease called avascular necrosis (AVN) or osteonecrosis, which made him require crutches for walking. He pledged that if he was ever able to walk normally again, he would travel around the world to raise funds.

Machine to machine connectivity is essential for this trip: the Smart connectivity, along with our Global SIM ensures that the bike is always connected on roaming, submitting data such as localization, speed, temperature and pressure among others in real time wherever the rider is. Moreover, information such as the pilot’s attention, emotions and pulse will also be available. Of course, Big Data and Cloud are also essential in the process of monitoring and data transmission.
